Moving Day

It’s hard to believe that this will be the last post I write from our home on Booth Street. Over the past seven years, apartment 6G has sheltered me as I’ve grown into the person I am today. It is filled with unforgettable memories. I will truly miss this place and the friendly neighborhood that has become so familiar through the years.

Chris and I were running around like two headless chickens yesterday, tackling last-minute errands and logistics. It was exhausting, and I felt super stressed and emotional all day. With all the chaos surrounding our move, I figured we'd be too crazed to celebrate Valentine's Day. But, as usual, Mr. Jeng had something up his sleeve - a simple picnic in the middle of our empty new apartment.

I couldn’t have imagined a sweeter first memory for us to share together in our new home.
I know there will be many more :)

We’ll be bouncing around over the next several weeks as our team works on wrapping up some final details. Lots more to come once I resurface from this sea of bubble wrap, boxes, and tape. Wish me luck!

Picture Perfect

There is a pole in our living room, but it's not what you think, people. Nobody is makin' it rain up in this club. This is actually a mounting device for a badass laser tool that was used during the installation of our picture frame moulding.

Applying picture frame moulding is a simple way to elevate and add definition to your walls. Since these decorative frames are visually outlined by your floor, walls, and ceiling, it is essential to make sure each panel is mounted symmetrically. Any lopsided lines may cause the rest of your room to look unbalanced. A good old-fashioned tape measure and level can do the trick, but I thought it was pretty neat how the lasers cut all the guesswork out of this project.

The dual-axis projector is calibrated to zap perfectly perpendicular horizontal and vertical beams onto the wall. This creates a precise layout for the moulding.
Work in progress. Looking good!
Voilà! Lovely, impeccable picture frame moulding.

BTW- My jaw dropped when I saw how gorgeous our parquet flooring looked post-sanding! I'm almost tempted to keep it as-is and let the red oak shine in all its glory. But I will do no such thing :)
More later!

Two Weeks' Notice

It's official - we're moving in two weeks! I am feeling all sorts of emotions right now and also battling the nastiest sinus infection ever. Pretty crappy timing, considering all the things that need to be done before the movers ring our doorbell next Friday morning. Ugh. I really hope I can get it together, because right now, I'm feeling a little like this.

On the bright side, renovations are really coming along and looking great! We're about one month in at this point, and I've been very pleased with the progress so far. After weeks of deliberation, I've finally picked out our paint colors, and some of them are already on the walls. I'll talk more about it in a later post, but here is the finalized palette:

The floor team is coming in today to sand and prep our floors to be stained this Friday. This is going to be a pretty major transformation... I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it turns out well. Stay tuned!
